Please Drop Your Change in the Blue Bucket - Support the CART Fund

Your change can change lives.  At every Friday morning meeting, when we sit down for breakfast, there is a blue CART bucket on each of our tables. CART is the "Coins for Alzheimer's Research Trust" Fund, a project begun in October 1995 by the Sumter, South Carolina Rotary Club. The project has since been adopted by eleven Rotary districts, including our own District 6900. By placing your change in the bucket, you can make a difference.

Alzheimer's disease is claiming more and more victims worldwide every day. Over 4 million Americans are now victims; and medical scientists predict that, unless a prevention/cure is found, that the number of American victims will grow to 16 million within the next 20 to 25 years. Further, it is believed that without a cure, one out of every 10 living Americans will ultimately become victims. In addition, it is estimated that 75 percent of the world's victims live outside of the United States.

The CART Fund was developed with the idea of accomplishing its goals without Rotary clubs conducting special fund raisers and without interfering with other projects of our various Rotary clubs. In order to do this, the concept was developed of asking Rotarians to voluntarily empty their pockets of change or whatever amount they wanted to donate when they attend their weekly Rotary Club meetings. This provides a very simple, painless and effective way to raise much-needed funds for Alzheimer's research.

In District 6900, we set and exceeded our goal of $25,000.00 last Rotary year to raise funds for this much needed research.  On a per capita basis, that was a little more than $5 per Rotarian in our District.  This year, we would like to move our goal to $30,000.00 or $6 per Rotarian.  In Rotary, we have always been about the business of worthy causes.  To combat a disease that is a growing threat to our parents, children and ourselves makes this a cause worthy of our attention.
