Adopt-A-Mile 8/27/2011
In terms of turnout numbers this Adopt-A-Mile was close to historic and continues our club's 11 plus year commitment to keep Old Milton Parkway clean. Thanks to Wayne Robinson, John Hipes, Charlie Swahn, Nelson Karpeh, Lyman Louis, Bill Hamilton, Nick Born, Miller Connell, Phil Kingry, Price Connell, Mike Connell, Rick Leaman, Jason Binder, and Chris Weeber (picture taker) for their participation. Special welcome and thanks to new club members Nelson and Mike for joining us....Miller and Price, too!
Further Adopt-A-Mile history was made by Bill Hamilton on this occasion. As related by Lyman Louis, Bill spotted a discarded table in the brush. He decided to pick it up and haul it to a spot near the road so it could be picked up later. Unfortunately, as Bill lifted the table on his back he was immediately attacked by hundreds of fire ants that were residing underneath. After much gyrating, the removal of his shirt, and several ant bites, Bill prevailed and the episode ended satisfactorily. For his persistence, courage, and grace under fire(ant) it has been decided that Bill be the first (and hopefully last) recipient of the Alpharetta Rotary Adopt-A-Mile Order of the Red Ant. Please be sure to congratulate him at this Friday's meeting.
