RYLA-3c

What is RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award)

The purpose of RYLA is three-fold:

1. To further demonstrate Rotary's respect and concern for youth.

2. To encourage, assist, and train selected youth leaders, and potential youth leaders, in responsible, effective leadership.

3. To publicly recognize the high qualities of many young people who are rendering service to their communities as youth leaders.

Each Rotary Club in Georgia (District 6900) is invited to select rising juniors to receive a Rotary Youth Leadership Award and attend the RYLA Conference. Awardees should be sought from the community, and should be carefully selected on the basis of character, leadership qualities, general education, personality, and leadership potential.

Alpharetta Rotary will be sponsoring three rising juniors from Milton High School for this year's RYLA Conference. On April 20, 2011 a selection committee led by Lyman Louis with Chris Weeber, Rick Leaman, and Jamie Dixon interviewed 7 candidates. These outstanding students were each nominated by their respective guidance counselors. The three selected are Emily Germany, Angela Palm, and Sophia Duran.

Emily is a member of National Spanish Honor Society, Junior Amrican Legion, is taking AP Science and Chemistry, plays volleyball, one of seven children, and hopes to go to Emory.

Angela is a track team member, plays the cello, participated in Duke TIP, member of National Spanish Honor Society and Beta Club, and hopes to go to Duke, UNC, or UGA.
