On Thursday, September 1, members of our club had the privilege of serving lunch to over 200 members of our armed forces at the USO at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport as they prepared to embark "down range" to Afghanistan and Iraq. The menu consisted of traditional southern fare including barbecue (pork and chicken), wings, cole slaw, potato salad, beans, sweet tea and soft drinks, with key lime pie and chocolate cake for desert. William Perkins coordinated the day along with Mark Meckes and Nick Born. Volunteers included John and Karen Hipes, Phil Kingry, Kirk Driskell, Bill Weeks, Jerry Urmanski, Rick Leaman, and Chris Weeber. Added to this event was the opportunity for Rick, Bill, Phil, and Kirk to make a "Salute to the Troops" video for CNN HLN which aired on Labor Day.
