Meeting - Nov. 15, 2013

After Wayne's outstanding performance on CNN, the club donated $4,000 to Shelter box to help fund the Phillipines relief effort, plus offered a matching donation for club members who wish to donate up to another $2,000.

November is Rotary Foundation month.  The Rotary Foundation was started in 1917 with a $26 donation.  It now totals approximately $724 million, with about $204 million in active projects.  The Rotary Foundation is unique in that all of the donations from within a district are returned to the district after 3 years. John Hipes, this year's Foundation Chairman, recognized Eric Douglas, a new Paul Harris Society Member ($1,000/year), and Eric's two children, EJ and Eve as Paul Harris fellows.

Maggie DeCan, our speaker, gave an interesting collection of insights into the movement of Honey Baked Ham from a values-based business to a values-driven business, and its impact on the company's performance.  Among other things, we learned that Honey Baked Ham is also the place to buy Honey Baked Turkeys, reportedly the best turkey ever eaten.
