Summer is upon us and we are all planning our vacations, activities, and even our lazy days of summer cookouts!  That is GREAT but we hope you will include a day of service within your summer planning strategy.  This day could involve the whole family.  An Alpharetta Rotarian, Scott Doll of the YMCA, has spearheaded this project and he and the children involved need our help.  This is a hands-on service project that directly addresses a local community need.  The program will meet every other week starting on July 9, 2014.

While planning our projects for this upcoming year we discovered that the nutritious lunch provided during the school year is often missed during the summer.  We addressed this challenge with the Ed Isakson/Alpharetta Family YMCA and literally within a few short weeks a program was launched and help is needed.  The program will not only provide nourishment but will also include activities to engage the childrens' minds and bodies.  This is a pilot program and if we can get community support we can add other locations.

Rotarian Cookie Haynes and her husband Michael got involved, and the first day discovered three of the children were anxious to eat and when questioned they humbly explained that they had not eaten since yesterdays lunch that was provided through this program.
Help is needed on M-W-F with a commitment from 11-12:30 pm, at least 4-6 volunteers are needed each day and we ask that you come ready to play games and engage with the children.
