peanuts

This week for me is one of my favorite weeks of the  year.  I had the great pleasure of preparing for, hosting and yes cleaning up after eight of my in-laws over the thanksgiving weekend.  I had the great pleasure of greeting them when they arrived on Tuesday and I had the great pleasure of waving goodbye to them on Sunday.     I thoroughly enjoyed having a house full of folks that teetered on controlled chaos most of the time but the absence of that now has provided a very calm and quiet environment.  With all of that behind me I get to reflect more this week on the spirit of Christmas and what it all means to me, my family and friends.  I also share with my friends who do not celebrate Christmas the spirit of the season.  To me the spirit is the joy and celebration of what we believe and I focus on that but I also focus on the fact that it’s a time for a lot of fun.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with acknowledging that I like to go to Christmas parties, Christmas lunches,  and a holiday get together.  I like the shiny decorations and lights all over the house.  I like eating food I shun the rest of the year and I enjoy having a couple glasses of eggnog.  I get great pleasure out of buying gifts that will put a smile on somebodies face.  I get great pleasure in receiving my annual large bag of peanut M&M’s.  There’s the  festive music and who doesn’t like the tradition of twenty four hours of the movie ”A Christmas Story.”  So I say to you my friends, lets enjoy this season together.

I want to thank Mike Lowry for all his hard work behind the scenes with our web site and this weekly newsletter.  When I was on vacation Mike posted some Thanksgiving humor which as some of you know I borrowed and re-posted.  Great stuff.  This week’s speaker is going to show us all how to laugh a little more and see the lighter side of life.  I look forward to seeing you all on Friday.

Yours in Rotary Service,
